New schemes are always going to take some time to learn for players when they switch schools, but graduate transfer cornerback Nick Harvey says his adjustment from Texas A&M to South Carolina took extra time.

“At first it was real difficult because we had less calls at A&M,” said Harvey. “But now I’m getting a good grasp of everything and I feel like I can play well in this defense. It’s multiple calls in this defense, so we play a little bit of everything. At A&M we played just a couple of calls, but here, it’s way more calls. I feel like this defense puts the corners, nickels and safeties in the best positions for them to succeed.”

Harvey started 12 games for the Aggies in 2016, and led the team in pass breakups with 10. He also recorded 68 tackles and one interception. He missed the 2017 season recovering from a knee injury.

Considering Will Muschamp’s and Travaris Robinson’s history of producing elite defensive backs in the SEC, these comments aren’t completely surprising but it is noteworthy that the Aggies lacked the extra level of sophistication during Harvey’s time in College Station.

One other note to this story, Texas A&M travels to South Carolina on Oct. 13.
