Alabama tight end O.J. Howard was among Bucky Brooks’ list of College Football’s top pass-catchers for NFL.com. Howard ranked third in the list of five.

The Alabama senior was credited for being a potential home run threat for the Tide this fall after his breakout performance in the College Football Playoff title game. Howard recorded 208 yards and two touchdowns on five receptions in the 45-40 win over Clemson.

Brooks also noted that the gifted tight end had been relatively quiet in Alabama’s offense prior to the CFB title game. Howard was limited to just 33 receptions for 394 yards and zero touchdowns through his first 14 appearances. As a sophomore, he recorded 17 catches for 260 yards.

But Brooks expects Howard to breakout in 2016 due to his combination of size, speed and athleticism at tight end, which should provide a mismatch for linebackers and defensive backs in pass coverage. The 6-foot-6, 242-pounder could demand more targets as a senior and see a spike in his individual numbers.

Howard was the only SEC player who made Brooks’ top-5, however, all four players who received honorable mentions were also from the conference. Alabama’s Calvin Ridley, LSU’s Travin Dural and Malachi Dupre and Texas A&M’s Christian Kirk were each players considered “on the radar.”
