Cornerback flips from Kentucky to Alabama after visit

When Montrell Custis was interviewed by Saturday Down South recently, he spoke glowingly about Kentucky.

Then Nick Saban came along.

There was no question the 6-foot-0, 175-pound cornerback loved Kentucky’s coaching staff, the program, etc. But Bama came calling, got him on campus, and the rest is history. The three-star DB dropped the Wildcats Monday night and is now on board with ‘Bama.

“I was impressed by the love (Stoops) was showing me, the love towards this whole recruiting process,” Custis told SDS when asked about Kentucky. “He said they are rebuilding and he would like my skill set to bring the winning tradition back to Kentucky. It’s very exciting. I’m looking forward to the challenge of playing in the SEC. It doesn’t matter who I play against, I’m just looking forward to playing against all the teams.”

Oh well.

Custis also reported scholarship offers from Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi State and several other BCS programs. He is a three-star prospect, but something tells us his stock is going to start rising in the rankings soon thanks to his commitment to the Crimson Tide. Custis is the Tide’s 10th commitment of the 2015 class.

Editor’s note: Saturday Down South’s references to ratings follow the composite rankings.
