The malls are closing and the Christmas countdown clock is nearing zero. But never fear. We’ve got enough holiday magic to send out one special gift for each SEC team.

What would your school like to find under the tree Christmas morning? How about these?

Alabama: A clean bill of health

There’s little doubt that Alabama has the horses to win two more games and nab another national title. The question is whether those horses will be ready to go. Unlike recent seasons, Alabama has been crushed by injuries, especially in its linebacking corps. So we’re sending get-well-soon vibes out to all the ailing Tide players, which is probably enough to bring home the bacon in the new year.

Arkansas: A focused (and clean living) Cole Kelley

With Chad Morris now at the helm, the best thing that Arkansas could have is for talented young QB Cole Kelley to get over his past missteps and brushes with the law and concentrate on his impressive drop-back passing skills. Arkansas won’t be shy about passing the football, and if Kelley can grow up during this offseason, the rebuilding job will get a lot easier.

Auburn: A bowl game butt-kicking

The only things worse for Auburn then ending up not in the CFP but in a mismatched Peach Bowl game would be not showing up for that game. UCF is a legitimate opponent, and one that has very little to lose and much to gain. Auburn can’t cure the missteps that landed them just outside the Playoff, but they can take their aggression out with a bowl-game whipping of UCF.

Florida: The answer at QB

Is it Feleipe Franks? It is Emory Jones? Is it somebody else? All we know is that in recent seasons, as Florida’s QB  play goes, so go the Gators. For Dan Mullen to pull the Gators back into the East race, he’ll need the right guy under center. We’re sending the Gators wishes for a season without a crazy rotating train of quarterbacks. The results might be noticeably better.

Georgia: A fast start

With a team full of players who haven’t been in a game as big as the CFP — and especially with true frosh Jake Fromm at QB — we send the Bulldogs a quick start. If Georgia can get ahead (in one or two CFP games), it can lean on its insanely talented running game and bloodthirsty defense. If UGA falls behind, it could get ugly in a hurry. So we’re sending them an early lead — or two.

Kentucky: A season-defining win

Kentucky fans are rarely unhappy at 7-5. But many are late in 2017. The best medicine? A bowl win over Northwestern, which would be a statement-making win much as Louisville was in late 2016. Kentucky is underdogs by a touchdown or so, and a victory would be a clear sign of continued improvement in Lexington.

LSU: An answer on offense

Coordinator Matt Canada did make strides in moving LSU toward a more balanced attack. That said, Canada didn’t appear to be a great fit, and rumors of Canada moving along have circulated this offseason. Regardless of whether it’s with or without Canada, we send the Tigers a cohesive offensive identity under the tree. Some seem to be seeing Hugh Freeze inside that wrapping paper.

Mississippi State: Some Receiving Threats for Fitzgerald

While State was substantially better in 2017 than 2016, they did it without much talent at receiver. All-time leading MSU receiver Fred Ross was gone, and without a dependable replacement, State’s passing game struggled. With new head coach Joe Moorhead around, his transition will be much easier if State can find another big-time receiving target to hopefully catch Nick Fitzgerald’s passes.

Missouri: A replacement for Heupel

The Missouri Tigers put up a 6-0 second half of 2017, which was one of the best stories of the year. Unfortunately, offensive coordinator Josh Heupel, who was a major factor in the Tigers’ sudden surge, has moved on to Central Florida as the head coach. We’re sending the Tigers another great offensive mind, so they can continue to light up scoreboards in 2018.

Ole Miss: Enough talent to compete

The Rebels competed a 6-6 season that was remarkable and frustrating — remarkable because they were competitive even without much reason to be so, frustrating because it could have been so much more. But as soon as the NCAA’s latest sanctions landed, another round of Rebels immediately started leaving town, including QB Shea Patterson. WR A.J. Brown is staying, and we send the Rebels enough other returning talent to make 2018 entertaining.

South Carolina: A replacement for Roper

South Carolina’s situation is kind of opposite that of Mizzou. The Gamecocks have won for Will Muschamp’s first two years in spite of the offense. Carolina has some outstanding skill players, so don’t be surprised if QB Jake Bentley improves now that the offensive albatross that was Kurt Roper is gone. Here’s to a new, better play caller for Christmas.

Tennessee: A reason for hope

How bad were things at Tennessee? Frankly, historically bad. We’re just sending the Vols some hope — even though we’re not sure what it’ll be. Maybe Jeremy Pruitt can energize that awful defense, or bring in some play makers on offense. But whatever it is, we just want the Vols to have reason to hope again. In the past 10 years, UT has gone 62-63. Let’s send them reason to believe that the next 10 years will be substantially better.

Texas A&M: A dose of patience

The move from Kevin Sumlin to Jimbo Fisher is an upgrade. The problem is that in the SEC West, with Alabama, Auburn, and LSU comfortably ahead of the Aggies, it might take some time for that upgrade to show up in the win-loss column. We’re sending A&M a big dose of patience — give Fisher enough time to field his own team and compete with the results. If they wait, they’ll be glad they did. If not, they’ll be looking at another huge buyout.

Vanderbilt: Another Ralph Webb

The Commodores will lose, among other players, the leading rusher in the history of the program. Ralph Webb is just the kind of guy Vandy needs to be successful. They can’t out-recruit the big boys, so they need under-the-radar gems to work out. Here’s a gift that keeps on giving — another lightly regarded prospect who the big boys overlooked. We figure Vandy will figure out how to best use him.
