Sports Illustrated says college fans should not miss three games featuring SEC teams, but only one conference contest makes the publication’s top 10 games to watch in 2017.

It’s no surprise to see SI’s top 10 games start with the highly anticipated Week 1 meeting between Alabama and Florida State in Atlanta. Here’s the full list:

  • Florida State vs. Alabama (Sept. 2)
  • Oklahoma at Ohio State (Sept. 9)
  • Georgia at Notre Dame (Sept. 9)
  • Stanford at USC (Sept. 9)
  • Texas at USC (Sept. 16)
  • Wyoming at Boise State (Oct. 21)
  • Penn State at Ohio State (Oct. 28)
  • Oklahoma at Oklahoma State (Nov. 4)
  • Florida State at Clemson (Nov. 11)
  • Alabama at Auburn (Nov. 25)

If Alabama is the AP’s preseason No. 1, as many expect, and Florida State is No. 3 or higher, it will be the highest-ranked Week 1 matchup in the history of preseason polls. ESPN GameDay host Lee Corso has already confirmed that the popular pregame show will be onsite in Atlanta for the highly anticipated showdown of potential playoff teams.

The article’s author, Joan Niesen, says the Georgia-Notre Dame game is intriguing as a chance for either the Fighting Irish to establish themselves as “back” after a 4-8 season, or potentially start the unraveling of the Brian Kelly era:

There’s a lot to be sorted out for these two teams, but this game is likely to present an SEC contender hit its stride. And as great a story as a resurgent Notre Dame would be, the impending end of the Kelly era would be nearly as interesting.

Niesen sees the Tigers as the next biggest threat after FSU to take down Alabama, making the Iron Bowl required viewing:

The Tigers this season will have transfer quarterback Jarrett Stidham under center, and expectations are high. He didn’t do much to dull the chatter during Auburn’s spring game, when he completed 16 of 20 passes for 267 yards and rushed for a touchdown. The Tigers also brings back eight starters on defense and talented kicker Daniel Carlson, making them one of the more complete teams entering the season in college football—and one of the biggest threats to Alabama’s supremacy in the SEC.

We’re sure SEC fans think the list left off a few important games, but the three listed will certainly have the attention of college football fans everywhere.
