Following Saturday’s 20-13 thriller between Alabama and LSU, we’ve decided to take a look at the five best SEC overtime games of the Mike Slive era (2003-present).

Oct. 25, 2003- Alabama (43) vs. Tennessee (51): This was the longest game in the history of the two teams’ annual matchup. Quarterback Casey Clausen provided a game-winning 1-yard quarterback sneak in the fifth overtime to give the Vols a 51-43 win. With the victory, Tennessee became the first visitor to win three straight games at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Nov. 1, 2003- Arkansas (71) vs Kentucky (63): This matchup is tied for the NCAA record for the longest football game ever played and lasted seven overtimes. Jared Lorenzen connected with Chris Bernard to tie the game at 24 in the fourth quarter before the teams traded points for the next six overtimes. Decori Birmingham scored on a 25-yard touchdown run and Jason Peters added a successful two-point conversion to give the Razorbacks the edge. After Kentucky took possession, a Lorenzen fumble on fourth and three was recovered by all-SEC linebacker Tony Bua of Arkansas.

Oct. 13, 2007- LSU (37) vs Kentucky (43): Kentucky provided eventual BCS champion LSU with its first of two regular season losses in one of its biggest wins in program history. The Wildcats rallied down 27-14 to even the score at the end of regulation. Andre’ Woodson hit Stevie Johnson on a 7-yard pass to put Kentucky ahead 43-37 in the third overtime. LSU failed to answer on four straight running plays as Charles Scott was stopped by Braxton Kelley on fourth-and-2.

Nov. 24, 2007- Tennessee (52) vs Kentucky (50): Tennessee and Kentucky found themselves in a shootout during their regular season finale in Lexington. The Vols held an advantage through regulation before Kentucky evened the score at 31 with a field goal as time expired. Erik Ainge threw his school record seventh touchdown to put Tennessee ahead 52-44 in the fourth overtime. Kentucky answered with a 2-yard touchdown run by Derrick Locke, but was stopped by Antonio Reynolds on the 2-point conversion.

Nov. 5, 2011- LSU (9) vs Alabama (6): Billed as a “Game of the Century,” this marked the first regular season matchup between SEC teams ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the nation. Unlike the aforementioned games above, this was all defense as the rivals faced a 6-6 tie in regulation. LSU won on a 25-yard field goal by Drew Alleman, his third of the game. The teams would meet once again in the 2012 BCS National Championship Game, as Alabama captured a 21-0 victory.
