Auburn has received a commitment from perhaps the most talked-about and coveted prospect down the stretch of the 2016 cycle in the southeast. Five-star defensive tackle Derrick Brown (Buford, Ga./Lanier) pledged to the Tigers over Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama.

Brown is the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of Georgia this cycle.

The 6-foot-3.5, 317-pound Brown continues a recent tradition of the Tigers landing elite out-of-state defensive linemen on signing day. In the Class of 2013, Auburn took Carl Lawson and Montravius Adams out of Georgia and in the 2015 cycle, the Tigers landed Byron Cowart out of Florida.

Brown has as much (if not more) upside and potential as any of them and could be an instant impact player on the plains next season.

This also is another recruiting win for one of the godfathers of SEC recruiting- Auburn defensive line coach and alum Rodney Garner. Garner has always been outstanding at landing prospects, be it at Tennessee, Georgia and now with the Tigers.

Brown is the No. 9 overall defensive tackle prospect in the 2016 recruiting cycle per 247Sports Composite rankings.
