Now that the conference basketball seasons are heating up, we’re getting a better idea about which teams will make the field of 68 when the NCAA Tournament rolls around in March.

As far as the SEC is concerned, there’s a clear No. 1 team in Tennessee, followed by some teams that are going to need to continue to play well in order to make the tourney.

Per ESPN bracketology expert Joe Lunardi, seven SEC teams are projected to make the March Madness field, followed by Alabama, which is in Lunardi’s “Next Four Out” section:

  • No. 1 (Midwest) — Tennessee
  • No. 4 (South) — Auburn
  • No. 4 (West) — Kentucky
  • No. 7 (South) — Mississippi State
  • No. 8 (East) — Ole Miss
  • No. 9 (West) — LSU
  • No. 11 (East) — Florida
  • Next Four Out — Alabama

There are some big games on the schedule this week, starting with Kentucky at Georgia and LSU at Ole Miss on Tuesday night. Expect there to be some shifts in the projections by this time next week.
