The NCAA Tournament is now officially underway (even if the first-round games don’t technically start until Thursday).

That means it’s the time of year when players across the country will be in the national spotlight, and many will have the chance to become household names.

On Tuesday, SB Nation ranked the top-50 players in the tourney, and seven SEC athletes were listed, starting with Tennessee’s Grant Williams:

  • No. 4 — Grant Williams, F, Tennessee
  • No. 7 — PJ Washington, F, Kentucky
  • No. 25 — Admiral Schofield, G/F, Tennessee
  • No. 28 — Tremont Waters, G, LSU
  • No. 34 — Quinndary Weatherspoon, G, Mississippi State
  • No. 38 — Kevarrius Hayes, C, Florida
  • No. 45 — Jared Harper, G, Auburn

Yes, there are a lot of great players in the field of 68 teams this year, but it still feels like guys like Tennessee PG Jordan Bone, Auburn G Bryce Brown and Ole Miss G Breein Tyree, among others, were snubbed.

Maybe that will motivate them to play even better than the seven players listed above in the tourney. We’ll start finding out who excels on Thursday and Friday.
