Critics may call it SEC bias or the conference being rewarded for parity, but the latest ESPN power rankings feature seven SEC teams in the top 25.

The SEC teams featured are:

  • No. 1 – Alabama
  • No. 5 – Georgia
  • No. 9 – LSU
  • No. 15 – Florida
  • No. 19 – Texas A&M
  • No. 20 – Kentucky
  • No. 21 – Mississippi State
  • No. 24 – Auburn

These rankings, authored this week by Joel Anderson, differ from ESPN’s metric-based Football Power Index. The FPI notably rated Florida, Mississippi State and Auburn above LSU.

Alabama is widely seen as the nation’s No.1 team and Georgia is making its College Football Playoff case week in, week out. The rest of the bunch, however, are more concerned with taking care of business in conference play instead of worrying about rankings.

These rankings, along with the major polls, FPI and S&P+ shows there’s plenty of debate about who stands where in the SEC behind Alabama and Georgia.
