On Monday, the SEC reiterated that it has not made any changes to the schedule of this week’s men’s basketball tournament while it monitors the coronavirus situation in Nashville. It won’t be business as usual everywhere in Nashville, however, as Vanderbilt University has now canceled classes.

The school announced Monday that all classes have been canceled for the remainder of the week. From the coronavirus page on the school’s website:

Due to new information received March 9, and based on our desire to protect the health and safety of our community from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the university is cancelling classes for the remainder of this week.

In addition, beginning Monday, March 16 and through at least March 30, the university is suspending all in-person classes and is moving to distance and other alternative learning options. Students will hear directly from their respective deans and/or faculty instructor regarding any specific instructions.

Vanderbilt campus is less than two miles away from Bridgestone Arena, the host venue of the SEC men’s basketball tournament. The tournament’s opening round is scheduled to begin Wednesday. The SEC Network is also scheduled to broadcast live from the site of the tournament throughout the week. On Monday, the conference announced various health precautions and preventive measures for the tournament’s participants and attendees.
