In the latest in unnecessary additions, the Alabama High School Athletic Association, or AHSAA, has approved the use of instant replay review for all Alabama high school football games next season.

According to Josh Bean of AL.com, Alabama will become the first state to utilize instant replay for all games, not just postseason contests. The AHSAA has been granted a waiver to do so for up to three years. Alabama high schools will be aided by the help of instant replay company DVsport, which provides replay services for the SEC.

For those looking to escape the human error that exists in the game due to referee’s decisions, this is sure to help. That being said, depending on how well this system is implemented and executed, the replay system could be a nightmare to deal with on the high school level. Particularly when considering how many games will be taking place across the state on Fridays and which schools will have access to replay and which may not.

Is this something that was really necessary?
