Thursday night’s Cotton Bowl was supposed to be a slugfest between two of the best defenses in the country.

Instead, one of them got repeatedly torched by an aerial attack that wasn’t really known for doing so as Alabama quarterback Jake Coker had his best performance of the season. Meanwhile, Alabama rolled up 38 points in a shutout win.

The performance was so good that apparently Coker’s second touchdown pass got Alabama’s offensive coordinator yawning.

Coker connected with receiver Calvin Ridley on a 50-yard TD bomb with 2:20 left in the third quarter, Kiffin let his players know he wasn’t exactly having fun anymore, according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy.

Although known for having a stout run defense, the Spartans were exposed on the back end. Coker completed 83.3 percent of his passes (25 of 30) for a season-high 286 yards with two touchdowns.
