If you’re wondering why that four-star receiver your team signed has yet to become a star, it’s because he’s not all that rare.

The SEC contains nine different former five-star receivers and 45 different former four-star receivers at the start of 2015. That’s a ton of athletic pass-catchers.

Texas A&M (3), Alabama (2) and LSU (2) all claim multiple five-star receivers.

RELATED: Who has the best talent in the SEC at QB?

Here’s a look at the team-by-team talent, followed by a few observations:

Team Total 4 or 5-star WRs Avg. Rating Other WRs
Alabama 6 4.1 1
Arkansas 2 3.1 7
Auburn 7 3.6 5
Florida 5 3.4 7
Georgia 6 3.8 3
Kentucky 1 3.1 11
LSU 7 3.9 3
Mississippi State 3 3.2 10
Missouri 1 3.1 10
Ole Miss 5 3.3 8
South Carolina 2 3.2 9
Tennessee 5 3.6 3
Texas A&M 6 3.7 6
Vanderbilt 0 2.9 9
  • Four different schools can line up at least a half-dozen “quality” receivers, rated four or five stars out of high school: Auburn (7), LSU (7), Alabama (6) and Texas A&M (6). Alabama (4.1) and LSU (3.9) have the highest average rating at receiver in the SEC.
  • As always, making an impact in the SEC isn’t limited to four- and five-star athletes. D.J. Chark (LSU), Brandon Powell (Florida), De’Runnya Wilson (Mississippi State), Cody Core (Ole Miss), Pharoh Cooper (South Carolina) and Josh Reynolds (Texas A&M) all were three-star recruits, and all should be tremendous wideouts in 2015.
  • There’s a huge discrepancy in the amount of scholarship receivers on each SEC team, ranging from a low of six (Georgia) to a high of 13 (Mississippi State).
  • We could be underestimating Florida’s receiving corps. Based solely on recruiting rankings, Jim McElwain’s Gators tie Tennessee for first in the SEC East with five “quality” receivers. The Gators are pretty close to Ole Miss and Auburn based solely on paper talent.
  • Kentucky, Mississippi State and Missouri each have at least 10 receivers that were rated two- or three-stars.
  • Vanderbilt is the only SEC team without a four- or five-star receiver on the 2015 roster.

Here’s a team-by-team breakdown of the scholarship receivers in the SEC. Star ratings listed below are based on the 247Sports composite rankings.
