When you’re a team such as Alabama, which will playing in an FBS-record 63rd bowl when it takes on Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl in a College Football Playoff semifinal on Thursday night, coming up with the best postseason win in the Crimson Tide’s storied history is about as easy as trying to tackle Derrick Henry.

But much like a postgame interview, it still has to be done, so before the year closes out, we at SDS have come up with the best bowl win for each SEC team. And here they are:

Alabama: Other Crimson Tide bowl wins may have been bigger, but Bama’s 21-0 victory over LSU in the 2011 season’s BCS National Championship Game was the best. It doesn’t get any better than holding LSU to no points and just 92 total yards while winning a national title.

Arkansas: There might not have been a more satisfying victory than the Razorbacks’ 31-6 win over Oklahoma in the Jan. 2, 1978 Orange Bowl. Despite having three players suspended for the bowl for violating team rules — and even though they were at least 18-point underdogs — the Hogs pulled off the upset to finish the season No. 3 in the final national rankings behind No. 1 Notre Dame and No. 2 Alabama.

Auburn: The Tigers helped the SEC win its fifth straight national title with their 22-19 victory over Oregon in the 2010 season’s BCS National Championship Game. The victory over the Ducks, who came in averaging 46 points per game, capped a Heisman Trophy-winning season for Cam Newton.

Florida: Danny Wuerffel threw for 3 TDs and ran for another as the Gators swamped Florida State 52-20 in the Jan. 2, 1997 Sugar Bowl to secure Florida’s first national championship.

Georgia: Herschel Walker rushed for 2 TDs as the Bulldogs beat Notre Dame 17-10 in the 1980 season’s Sugar Bowl for Georgia’s second — and most recent — national title.

Kentucky: The Wildcats capped their 1950 season by beating Oklahoma 13-7 in the Sugar Bowl. The unbeaten Sooners entered the game on a 31-game winning streak. Kentucky, which won its first SEC title, was ranked seventh in that season’s final Associated Press poll.

LSU: Marcus Spears’ 20-yard interception return for a touchdown capped LSU’s 21-14 victory over Oklahoma in the Jan. 4, 2004 Sugar Bowl as the Tigers won their first national title in 45 years. Entering the game, the Sooners had been averaging 45.2 points.

Missouri: Henry Josey ran for a 92 yards and three touchdowns, and Shane Ray returned a fumble 73 yards for a score as the Tigers beat Oklahoma State 41-31 in the Jan. 3, 2014 Cotton Bowl.

Mississippi State: The Bulldogs’ 14-7 victory over Georgetown in the Jan. 1, 1941 Orange Bowl was not only their first bowl win but also their first. The 1940 Bulldogs finished 10-0-1 for their only undefeated season in school history.

Ole Miss: The Rebels beat LSU 21-0 in the 1959 Sugar Bowl to claim their first national championship.

South Carolina: The Gamecocks’ 44-36 victory over Houston in the 2006 Liberty was their first postseason win under Steve Spurrier.

Tennessee: In Year 1 after Peyton Manning, the Volunteers topped Florida State 23-16 in the Jan. 4, 1999 Fiesta Bowl to win their first national championship since 1951.

Texas A&M: The Aggies are 3-0 in bowl games as an SEC team. Long before they joined the SEC, they beat Tulane 14-13 in the Sugar Bowl to win the 1939 national championship.

Vanderbilt: The Commodores nipped Boston College 16-14 in the 2008 Music City Bowl for their first postseason victory in 53 years. Vandy last such win was a 25-13 victory over Auburn in the 1955 Gator Bowl.
