As it got close to time for Week 7, we saw some big potential out there. Sure, the two best teams in the league are playing games that look destined to be blowouts. But this week could have some big time surprises, which is the kind of week we love for bold predictions. So here’s an outside-the-box prediction for each SEC game this Saturday.

Forget the backs for Georgia

This is kind of tongue in cheek. Chubb and Michel are still the stars of this Georgia offense, but here’s a thing about this Missouri defense. It can’t stop the pass. At all. Stephen Johnson looked like Tom Brady at times last week against this secondary. Jake Fromm’s season high for yardage is 201. Pencil him in for 250 this weekend as Georgia rolls.

Shurmur outpasses Patterson

You could get great odds on this, but Vandy’s tough pass defense will hold Shea Patterson to a relatively poor passing day … and at the same time, the Landsharks’ defense will allow Kyle Shurmur to have a big day offensively. Ole Miss is Arkansas or Mizzou with a better QB and a couple of receivers. Vandy wins by 10, but the story is that the QB who has the best game isn’t the one you think.

Guarantano brings life to Rocky Top

Tennessee is awful, and Butch Jones will be fired. But this game feels like one last big gasp before the plug is pulled. South Carolina doesn’t run the ball well, and given the shift at quarterback, Jones goes back to trusting his play-calling instincts more and Guarantano sparks UT to a second-half comeback for a seven-point win. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves in calling it a UT revival … next week (at Alabama) will be here soon.

Fitzgerald brings the MSU offense back

After a fascinating first three games, the Mississippi State offense hit a snag. Here’s guessing that the BYU defense will help it get sharper. The Cougars are 1-5, and might be even worse than their record. Nick Fitzgerald had just 103 yards rushing and 240 passing in the last two games combined. He’ll break each of those totals this week.

Auburn rolls over LSU

Sure, the Auburn Tigers are a touchdown favorite. But go back and watch LSU’s run defense this year, and you’ll realize it’s not very inspiring. Auburn rushes for 300 yards, beats LSU 41-20. And yes, LSU officially has the most ups and downs of any team in the nation this year. LSU’s Tigers probably still got an upset left of somebody they really shouldn’t beat. Just not Auburn this week.

Second week in a row, Florida loses in The Swamp

Texas A&M is not unlike LSU. Tough running game, talented young defense, QB who is somewhat limited but plays within his system. The difference is that A&M is just better, and so Florida won’t have the opportunity for a last-play miracle in this game. A&M by two scores, and Auburn/A&M is one of the most interesting games of the season. As an aside, this coming week looked like the end of the Kevin Sumlin era a month ago. Now, even if A&M loses, that doesn’t seem to be in the cards.

Rat Poison +49

Alabama stumbled last week, and that doesn’t happen often. It won’t happen two weeks in a row, particularly after Saban’s memorable “rat poison” rant. Bama is favored by around 31. It’ll be a seven score game — we’d take Bama minus-50 and feel good. Anything less is a statement of mercy for Bret Bielema, who really can’t keep his job after this season.
