Few observations:

  • With Kentucky and Vanderbilt logging first-team selections on special teams, all 14 teams were represented somewhere on Steele’s top team, for what that’s worth.
  • Steele’s pecking order at tailback is intriguing. He put Derrick Henry on his first team ahead of Leonard Fournette, and he put Alex Collins on his second team ahead of teammate Jonathan Williams. There are certainly people who would agree with those assessments, but I wouldn’t call that “chalk” relative to other media outlets (including our own).
  • Joshua Dobbs, Connor McGovern, Ethan Wolf, Jeb Blazevich and Drew Kaser were all excluded from Steele’s teams entirely, which is also interesting. Many feel Tennessee is a contender in the SEC East due in large part to Dobb’s late-season play, while Blazevich and Wolf were two of the top tight ends from the class of 2014.
  • Cam Robinson fell all the way to Steele’s fourth team. We’re not sure what Steele isn’t fond of regarding Robinson, but some mock drafts rate him as high as a top 10 pick in the 2016 NFL draft (CBS projected he’d go as high as No. 4).
  • Last one: If I am Cam Sutton, I am pretty bitter about falling to the third team, especially when Will Redmond, Mississippi State’s third corner last year, made the first team. Redmond is likely MSU’s top corner this year, but Sutton is highly proven and is moving inside to the slot out of need, not as a demotion. The kid is an exceptional talent.
