The UCF Knights have won 20 games in a row, but are still only No. 12 in the first College Football Playoff rankings of 2018.

Despite being 7-0 and one of only four undefeated teams in the FBS level (Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame being the others), the Knights weren’t even in the top 10.

After the College Football Playoff show on Tuesday night on ESPN, Selection Committee chair Rob Mullens said UCF’s schedule was the reason the Knights were outside the top 10:

“They are the only team in the country that has not played a team with a winning record through Week 9, and that was duly noted by the Committee,” he said.

Memphis, at 4-4, is the best team on UCF’s resume so far, and they needed a big second-half comeback to win that game. However, the Knights do have some bigger games coming up.

UCF closes the season with games against Temple, Navy, Cincinnati and USF, so that strength of schedule should rise as they keep winning.
