There was a hearty debate on the SEC Network Monday morning between Chris Doering and Peter Burns as they jumped into the conversation around the Alabama-LSU game set for Saturday.

On the “SEC This Morning” show, Doering said he’s most interested in watching how LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda aligns his defense, especially when Alabama puts several receivers on the field.

“I’m excited to see how they choose to try to defend Alabama,” Doering said. “One thing you mentioned earlier about how good those corners are. They have the ability to match up with depth at receiver, which I don’t think a lot of teams have. … (Alabama’s) ability to force you to have your fifth-best defensive back on the field matched up against fourth or fifth wide receiver, it’s impressive. Because Jaylen Waddle, he’s be a No. 1 at about every other team in the country.”

Doering then made his pick Alabama, 45-24, which surprised Burns.

“Can’t believe you think it’s going to be a blowout,” Burns said. “You’re disgusting to me.”

Doering also noticed how well Alabama starts games, and how with LSU missing LB Devin White for the first half, that is a key loss, however, it may provide a rallying cry for LSU.

“Added juice for them to elevate their game,” Doering said. “Because with Devin White, not only do you lose the leadership in terms of what he does and being the quarterback of that defense, you lose a guy that’s an incredible tackler.”
