We are entering unchartered territory in SEC and American sports history as professional leagues and college conferences around the nation have been either suspending, postponing or outright canceling events left and right.

The Southeastern Conference joined that list by announcing the 2020 SEC Tournament has been canceled on Thursday with Kentucky being named the league’s champion and given the SEC’s automatic bid to the 2020 NCAA Tournament — if it’s even held.

After canceling the 2020 SEC Tournament, the league then announced all sporting events had been suspended until at least March 30.

Following all these updates, Sankey met with the media in Nashville from the site of the 2020 SEC Tournament to discuss the league’s decision.
