Apparently, not even the worldwide leader in sports is safe from the coronavirus pandemic.

According to John Ourand of the Sports Business Daily, “ESPN has asked its 100 most highly paid commentators to take voluntary 15% pay cuts over the next three months” in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and the impact it has had on the company’s business.

Ourand says ESPN calls went out on Monday to the network’s most well-compensated commentators in regards to the pay cuts. It’s unclear how many of the employees accepted ESPN’s request to pay cut during this time.

Ourand also notes that executives at the network agreed to pay cuts ranging from 20 to 30 percent following the coronavirus outbreak.

ESPN issued the following statement to the Sports Business Daily:

“We are asking about 100 of our commentators to join with our executives and take a temporary salary reduction. These are challenging times, and we are all in this together.”

ESPN commentators listed among those affected by the pay cut requests include Stephen A. Smith, Mike Greenberg, Alex Rodriguez and Kirk Herbstreit, according to the Sports Business Daily.
