Who knew there could be so much drama when it comes to the NFL announcing game?

Not long after a report surfaced that ESPN was considering moving its top college broadcast booth of Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler to the NFL to cover Monday Night Football, the latest NFL broadcasting report is even more interesting.

According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, CBS has moved on from its No. 2 NFL analyst, Dan Fouts. This news comes after the network agreed to a massive contract extension this offseason for Tony Romo, the network’s No. 1 NFL analyst. The decision to move on from Fouts reportedly has nothing to do with the financial difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

If the news to let Fouts wasn’t big enough, Marchand is also reporting that CBS will pursue FOX NFL analyst Charles Davis to join the network. Davis also works for the NFL Network, is featured on the Madden NFL video game series and played football at Tennessee.

Before covering the NFL, Fouts was one of the top broadcast voices in college football. The college booth featuring Keith Jackson and Fouts was legendary and the former Oregon quarterback has even been featured in the Adam Sandler movie “The Waterboy” as a college football announcer.

Here’s to hoping Fouts finds his way back to the college game. Who knows, he may be calling SEC games in the near future.
