You don’t even have to be a fan of the NBA to appreciate what Klay Thompson did last night.

The Golden State Warriors’ sharpshooter sank 11 3-pointers to set an NBA playoff record in a win over the Oklahoma City Thunder to force a Game 7 in the West Finals on Saturday night.

What’s been remarkable about Thompson and two-time MVP Steph Curry is the range that the “Splash Brothers” have displayed this season, routinely draining treys from well beyond the 3-point line.

Thompson’s record-setting night from long range got me thinking about the longest touchdowns from scrimmage in the SEC over the last five years. How about we look at each team’s top play over that span?

ALABAMA

The first one is also a record-setter. This 99-yard touchdown throw from AJ McCarron to Amari Cooper in 2013 is alone for the longest touchdown pass in Alabama history. That put the Tide up on the Tigers 28-21 near the start of the fourth quarter of the Iron Bowl.

Of course, Auburn would go on to win the game in dramatic fashion in the infamous “Kick-Six” game.

ARKANSAS

Joe Adams was known for big plays during his time as a Razorback. In 2011, Adams took a sweep and hurdled his own teammate before racing 92 yards for a touchdown against Auburn.

The play ranks as the second-longest rushing touchdown in Hogs history behind only Broderick Green’s 99-yard score against Eastern Michigan in 2009.

Arkansas would go on to win 11 games for the first time since 1977 in what would be Bobby Petrino’s last season in Fayetteville.

AUBURN

The Auburn-Arkansas rivalry also gave us Auburn’s biggest play two years later. Gus Malzahn would love to see some of this in 2016. QB Nick Marshall found Sammie Coates for an 88-yard TD, a play that ranks as the third-longest passing play in school history.

This one put Auburn up 28-3 in what turned out to be a rout. The Tigers would lose to Florida State in the national title game about two months later.

FLORIDA

The Gators’ longest came thanks to a wide receiver screen from Treon Harris to Ahmad Fulwood during the team’s Birmingham Bowl victory against East Carolina in the 2014 season.

The team was led by interim coach D.J. Durkin for that game as Will Muschamp’s tenure ended after the regular season. This, coincidentally, would give Florida its longest play from scrimmage since the start of the Muschamp era, and it comes in the game immediately following his departure.

GEORGIA

Aaron Murray was firmly in his own end zone when he launched this 98-yarder to Reggie Davis to start the second quarter against North Texas in 2013.

When it comes to Georgia’s longest touchdown plays ever, this connection vaulted to the top of the list in the Bulldogs’ record book, surpassing David Green’s toss to Tyson Browning against LSU in 2003.

KENTUCKY

For the Wildcats, it’s a tie between two plays that both happened in the 2013 season, and both happened against cupcakes.

The first one here is by QB Jalen Whitlow, who scampered 88 yards for a touchdown against Alabama State.

The other was Javess Blue’s 88-yard TD catch against Miami (Ohio). This title on this video says it was an 87-yarder, but it was officially recorded as an 88-yarder.

LSU

Two of the longest passing plays in Tigers history came in back-to-back weeks to start the 2014 season, and both were from Anthony Jennings to Travin Dural. The first one came on an 80-yard TD against Wisconsin in the season opener.

This is the second, a 94-yarder against Sam Houston State that set the school record for longest passing play, touchdown or not. It currently sits 12 yards longer than the next-longest play.

MISSISSIPPI STATE

Mississippi State got its longest play on the very cusp of this five-year time period. Tyler Russell hooked up with Jameon Lewis for this 80-yard touchdown against Memphis in the 2011 season opener.

This play saw some very pathetic open-field tackling from three Memphis defenders. It’s one of the last highlights starting at the 2:36 mark of this video.

MISSOURI

In 2013, No. 5 Missouri was hosting No. 20 South Carolina and things were looking great for the home team as the Tigers raced out to a 17-0 lead on the Gamecocks.

This 96-yard strike from Maty Mauk to L’Damian Washington in the second quarter put Mizzou up 14-0.

However, South Carolina would rally for a 27-24 double-overtime win.

OLE MISS

Jaylen Walton knows all about explosive plays. Aside from this 91-yard TD run, the third-longest play from scrimmage in Ole Miss history — Walton also had a 100-yard kickoff return TD in 2012.

Walton took this sweep, didn’t see any daylight, switched field, juked a dozen Mississippi State defenders and took it to the house to put the No. 18 Rebels up 24-10 against the No. 4 Bulldogs. Ole Miss would go on to win 31-17.

SOUTH CAROLINA

The 2012 season saw the Gamecocks record their second of three straight 11-win seasons. South Carolina thrashed UAB along the way in a 49-6 victory, Steve Spurrier’s 200th coaching win.

In that contest, Damiere Byrd reeled in a 94-yard TD from Dylan Thompson for his only catch of the game.

TENNESSEE

In the team’s 2011 season opener against Montana, Justin Hunter hauled in an 81-yard touchdown throw from Tyler Bray, the Vols’ third-longest passing play since the turn of the century. The two previously hooked up for an 80-yard TD against Ole Miss the previous season.

This one begins at the 0:53 mark of this highlights video.

TEXAS A&M

For the Aggies, it’s a tie between Josh Reynolds and Mike Evans, who each had a 95-yard TD.

Last season, facing 3rd-and-9 at Vanderbilt while only holding a 6-0 lead near halftime, Kyle Allen hit Reynolds for a backbreaker that would lead to a 25-0 win. You can catch that score beginning at the 2:10 mark.

Evans’ grab came from Johnny Manziel back in 2013 against No. 1 Alabama. That pulled Texas A&M to within 42-35 in the fourth quarter in front of a frenzied Sixth Man. The Tide would escape with a 49-42 win.

VANDERBILT

The Commodores made life miserable for the Demon Deacons in 2011 and 2012, winning by exactly 34 points in each of those two contests. Vandy RB Zac Stacy was a big reason why.

A year after posting 28 carries for 184 yards and 3 TDs, the nightmare continued when Stacy visited Winston-Salem, N.C. Stacy had 21 carries for 180 yards and 2 TDs, including this 90-yarder right up the middle. I don’t think he was touched in what is the longest play from scrimmage in Vandy history.
