It’s never too early too look ahead to the 2015 season, right?

With 2014 in the books, let’s project the SEC’s power rankings in 2015, as voted on by our staff:

SEC East Trio

14. Vanderbilt Commodores
13. Kentucky Wildcats
12. South Carolina Gamecocks

Vanderbilt needs many improvements entering 2015, but the biggest is at quarterback. The Commodores need stability, or it could be another tough season…Kentucky is an interesting team next season. The Cats have some nice talent on offense and another year of experience under their belts. Could Kentucky shock everyone in 2015?…South Carolina hopes it can rebound from a forgettable 2014 campaign, but the Gamecocks have multiple questions on both sides of the football. Steve Spurrier doesn’t have a starting quarterback entering spring practice.

Teams with big questions

11. Mississippi State Bulldogs
10. Florida Gators
9. Ole Miss Rebels
8. Missouri Tigers

Mississippi State won 10 games in 2014, but MSU is returning less than 10 starters next season, fewest in the SEC. So, Dak Prescott will have to have another big season for the Bulldogs and young players will have to develop rather quickly to help make some noise in the SEC West…Florida has the SEC’s only new head coach in Jim McElwain. The defense shouldn’t take a step back at all, but McElwain is tasked with jumpstarting the below-average offense and quarterback play…Ole Miss has one of the best returning rosters, talent-wise, but the Rebels have questions at quarterback and running back. Ole Miss will be strong, but quarterback play has to be great in order to compete for the division…Ho-hum, everyone thinks Missouri is an average team again in 2015 after winning back-to-back SEC East division crowns. But the Tigers are right where they want to be entering next season.

SEC West trio

7. Arkansas Razorbacks
6. LSU Tigers
5. Texas A&M Aggies

Arkansas is a program on the rise under Bret Bielema, but the biggest obstacle is the Hogs’ own division. Bielema’s a proven winner and proven developer, and Hogs’ fans should be stoked for year three under Bielema and his coaching staff…LSU has plenty of young talent, and the Tigers have put together one of the best staffs in the country. But finding a quarterback with a heartbeat of a passing game is the most important issue for Les Miles and Cam Cameron. Everything is in place, even with new DC Kevin Steele, to make a run at the division in 2015, except a proven quarterback…Kevin Sumlin is the Aggies’ $5 million coach, and Texas A&M hired John Chavis to improve its pulseless defense. Sumlin’s offense will be strong under Kyle Allen, but the defense is probably two years away from being championship level under Chavis.

SEC East sandwich

4. Tennessee Volunteers
3. Georgia Bulldogs

Surprised that Tennessee is ranked so high? Get used to it. Many are picking the Vols to win the SEC East and be a championship dark-horse in Butch Jones’ third season. If Tennessee improves on the offensive line, look out…Georgia will be packed with elite talent once again. With an ever-improving defense under Jeremy Pruitt, the bigger question is the offensive side of the ball, namely at quarterback. New OC Brian Schottenheimer is tasked with developing the Bulldogs’ talented signal callers.

Iron Bowl two

2. Auburn Tigers
1. Alabama Crimson Tide

If our staff can accurately foresee the future, it will be another Iron Bowl battle for the SEC West. Auburn is putting together one of the best staffs in college football, and with Gus Malzahn’s offense and with the addition of Will Muschamp, the Tigers could be the SEC’s next big behemoth…Alabama will probably be the media’s favorite to win the SEC Championship again in 2015, as Nick Saban’s program is filled with elite talent and more than enough depth. Questions remain at quarterback and in the defensive secondary, though.
