Great news from The Opening as the injury suffered by elite Tennessee prospect Greg Emerson appears to be less significant than originally feared.

If you missed it over the weekend, Emerson went down during individual linemen drills Sunday at The Opening. The Volunteer State’s No. 1 defensive prospect in the 2018 recruiting cycle had to be removed from the field by medical personnel on a cart. His injury was bad enough that it put an end to Sunday’s linemen drills altogether at the camp.

Obviously the incident was very serious, however, it appears the injury sustained by Emerson wasn’t as bad as it could have been. Emerson himself tweeted out the good news following the many social media reactions to his injury. In fact, given the timeline Emerson gave out, 4-6 weeks, he may not even miss any of his upcoming senior season.

The 6-foot-3, 296-pound Emerson is currently rated as a four-star prospect, the nation’s No. 3 defensive tackle in the nation (Emerson plans to play defensive end in college) and the No. 1 overall recruit from the state to Tennessee according to 247Sports.

Emerson is Tennessee’s top uncommitted target heading into the summer but the Vols will have to beat out Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Ole Miss for his signature come signing day. Emerson has accepted an invitation to play in the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Game.
