A week ago, there were three consensus teams to make the College Football Playoff, with Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State, at least in the minds of ESPN reporters who offer a weekly view on the matter.

Now that the Big Ten and other conferences have rejoined the fray, those same people have pegged a clear quartet of teams, and the SEC is clearly not in line to have two teams make it.

Of the 14 voters, Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State all received votes from all of them, while Notre Dame received 11 votes. Georgia, which received eight of 15 votes last week, only received two this time. Oklahoma State got a vote this week. Mark Schlabach and Sam Khan Jr. were the Georgia voters.

The write-up description of the picks described it this way: “The biggest shake-up this week in the picks came with Notre Dame overtaking Georgia for the four spot in most of the picks. The Irish traveled to Pittsburgh on Saturday and left with a 45-3 victory in a complete performance. Notre Dame hosts Clemson in two weeks.”

At its season opener against Nebraska, Ohio State finally got a chance to prove its spot in the top four this week and promptly beat Nebraska 52-17. Justin Fields put himself in the Heisman Trophy conversation, as he went 20-of-21 passes for 274 yards and two scores.
