Week 5 of the college football season included big wins for Ohio State and Notre Dame. It’s safe to say ESPN’s experts noticed.

Ohio State entered Week 5 ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press Top 25, which could change after the Buckeyes won 27-26 over No. 9 Penn State in Happy Valley. The PSU game was expected to be OSU’s toughest in the regular season. Having passed that test, ESPN’s college football reporters are more comfortable slotting Urban Meyer’s squad No. 2 in the CFP rankings.

Notre Dame knocked off No. 7 Stanford 38-17. As we all know, anything can happen in college, but with a remaining schedule of Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Navy, Northwestern, Florida State, Syracuse and USC, it’s fair to start thinking about how the selection committee will view an undefeated Notre Dame.

While one of the media talking points will be Notre Dame’s threat to a second SEC team in the CFP, two of ESPN’s four college football reporters still see a way for Alabama, Georgia and Notre Dame to make the final four. The Crimson Tide and Buckeyes are in all four reporters’ picks.
