To a large degree, college football is a game of turnover. Some programs handle that turnover better and more consistently than others and that’s often why it’s so hard to predict the success and failure of teams year in and year out.

With some programs losing as much as a third of its production in any given offseason, finding suitable replacements in the spring and summer is typically the difference between winning and losing in the fall. While much will be expected from Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State, Auburn, Texas A&M, and South Carolina, based on ESPN’s top 25 post-spring rankings, there are still holes that need to be shored up before the fall.

With that in mind, ESPN.com just released its list of potential breakout players for each of the six SEC teams listed in their post-spring rankings. Here are those players and our thoughts on each selection:

Alabama: DT Raekwon Davis

After appearing in every game for the Crimson Tide and starting six games, Davis is an interesting selection here as he has already earned First-Team All-SEC honors for his outstanding play as a sophomore. Taking that into consideration, it’s hard to say he hasn’t already broken out for the Crimson Tide. He’ll likely garner some preseason All-American recognition.

Georgia: LB Monty Rice

This selection makes sense given the losses the Bulldogs have suffered at linebacker this offseason. Rice has been groomed to a larger role in 2018 after appearing in 14 games in 2017 and making one start as a true freshman. He was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and signed with UGA over LSU.

Mississippi State: RB Kylin Hill

One of the prizes of MSU’s 2017 recruiting class, he was the program’s highest running back signee since 2002 (Jerious Norwood), Hill was too good to keep off the bench as a true freshman. He registered 431 yards and two touchdowns from scrimmage as a freshman and looks to potentially fill the Saquon Barkley role in Joe Moorhead’s first Hail State offense.

Auburn: DL Nick Coe

Named to the SEC’s All-Freshman Team in 2017, Coe has arguably already broken out but could be poised for national honors if he continues to progress as much as he did last fall. The only thing that could keep him from significant minutes on the field is the fact the Tigers have such a deep roster of defensive linemen. While he likely isn’t to see as many snaps as some SEC linemen in 2018, he added benefit there is he’ll be well rested when he does see the field.

Texas A&M: DT Daylon Mack

The former five-star signee has yet to live up to that lofty standard but he has one final fall in College Station to prove what a dynamic player he can be for the Wrecking Crew. While Mack does have 17 tackles-for-loss in his career, he only has two sacks after three seasons. He did register a sack on the first play of the Texas A&M spring game. One of Mike Elko’s biggest goals should be getting the best out of Mack during his senior season.

South Carolina: OL Sadarius Hutcherson

After easing into the lineup last fall, he made four starts and had 10 appearances, Hutcherson will be expected to play significant snaps in 2018 following the loss of two senior offensive lineman this offseason in Columbia.
