Week 2 certainly featured a mixed bag of results for the SEC.

Georgia was one of the spotlight teams for the weekend after going into Notre Dame and taking down the Irish 20-19 on the road. South Carolina also looked good on both sides of the ball while beating Missouri 31-13 for the Gamecocks first conference win of the season. Alabama, LSU, and Tennessee also did their part in defeating weaker opponents.

The bad news for the SEC was led by Auburn and Arkansas. Auburn featured a strong defense and was able to hold Clemson to 14 points, but Auburn could never get the offense in gear. Auburn settled for two field goals while allowing QB Jarrett Stidham to get sacked 11 times by the Clemson defense. Arkansas had its own share of offensive issues after scoring just seven points against TCU and badly missing two field goals.

Following the action in Week 2, ESPN’s Sam Khan Jr. and Alex Scarborough shared their power rankings for the SEC. Alabama still stands alone at the top of the conference, but Georgia’s strong showing on the road vaulted the Bulldogs into the second slot.

On Alabama:

That was more like it. Jalen Hurts returned to his SEC Offensive Player of the Year form against Fresno State, throwing for 128 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 154 yards and two scores during the 41-10 win.

On Georgia’s road performance:

We could nitpick the offense, but what’s the point? Jake Fromm acquitted himself well in his first career start on the road at Notre Dame and the defense came up large.

Here is how the rest of the conference stacks up in the rankings:

3. LSU

4. Auburn

5. South Carolina

6. Tennessee

7. Arkansas

8. Florida

9. Mississippi State

10. Texas A&M

11. Kentucky

12. Ole Miss
