Since there were two losses on Saturday among teams in the top four of the College Football Playoff rankings, much of the discussion in college football is on the fourth team in the rankings.

ESPN’s Mark Schlabach came out with updated power rankings following Penn State’s loss to Minnesota, and Alabama’s loss to LSU. He called it a separation of contenders from pretenders and LSU and Ohio State were the big winners.

“The Tigers and Buckeyes once again looked like the most complete teams in the country,” he wrote. “LSU ended an eight-game losing streak to Alabama with a 46-41 victory on the road. Ohio State won its ninth game in nine tries by 24 points or more by dismantling Maryland 73-14.”

LSU QB Joe Burrow joined rare company. Burrow is only the third quarterback to throw for at least 350 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions against a Nick Saban-coached team. Ole Miss’ Chad Kelly and Clemson’s Deshaun Watson were the others, according to ESPN Stats & Information data.

With Georgia’s shutout of Missouri, the SEC still has three teams in the top five. If you extend the rankings out to the top 25, and Auburn and Florida check in at Nos. 12 and 13. Appalachian State, which beat South Carolina, was ranked at No. 25 after bouncing back from a loss to Georgia Southern.
