An SEC connection is set to commence in Dallas as former Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott will get a new position coach in former Florida and Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier.

Todd Archer of ESPN reported: “Doug Nussmeier is expected to be named quarterbacks coach on Mike McCarthy’s staff after serving as the tight ends coach in 2018-19 under Jason Garrett, according to sources. He will replace Jon Kitna …”

Nussmeier coached at Alabama and Florida each for three years, and his career has been largely in college with stops at Fresno State, Washington and Michigan. Before Dallas, he coached with the St. Louis Rams. At Alabama, he may be most remembered for being on the staff that helped the Crimson Tide win a national title in 2012-13 with A.J. McCarron.

But he’s been in Dallas since 2018 as tight ends coach.

If official, Nussmeier would also be the second member of the Cowboys coaching staff to be retained after the end of Jason Garrett’s tenure in Dallas, along with Kellen Moore as the offensive coordinator.
