Former Alabama WR Amari Cooper has made quite a name for himself, putting up back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons as Oakland’s leading receiver after being drafted in 2015. He even made a Pro Bowl last season.

None of that matters to newly-signed Oakland Raider TE Jared Cook, who as worn 89, Cooper’s current number, for his whole life. And it seems Cook wants that number from Cooper.

“I don’t know,” Cook said, via The Mercury News. “Me and (Cooper) are going to have to have a little conversation to see if I can get it off of him. Might have to bribe him a little bit, throw him like five bucks or something. We’ll see if I can get it off his back.”

Cook, a former South Carolina Gamecock, is best known for his playground-style Hail Mary reception that powered the Packers past the Dallas Cowboys in this past year’s playoffs. It’s no wonder, then, that Cook has the confidence to ask Cooper for his number.

The likelihood of all of this is pretty slim, however, as there’s no changing the numbers on those Cooper jerseys that fans have already purchased.

At the end of the day, it’s all a bit of offseason joshing between two new NFL teammates, but we highly doubt Cooper will let that No. 89 go.
