It should come as no surprise that the strongest conference in the country has one of the best batch of freshmen.

Four SEC players appeared on Pro Football Focus’ list of the top 10 freshmen through three weeks of the season, more than any other conference.

The highest-ranked player was Auburn safety Jamien Sherwood at No. 2 with a grade of 91.0, less than one point behind Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman. Georgia quarterback Justin Fields isn’t too far behind (No. 4, 90.6 grade) despite splitting time with starter Jake Fromm.

Coming in at No. 8 is Tennessee cornerback Bryce Thompson with a grade of 83.2, and Ole Miss linebacker Jacquez Jones (81.1 grade) rounds out the top 10.

This list is fluid throughout the season, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see more SEC players crack PFF’s top 10.
