Breaking news: A QB other than Dak Prescott won my weekly Valedictorian award.

Granted, Prescott had a bye, so I’m still debating whether to attach an asterisk to the trophy, which might or might not exist.

At any rate, the Week 9 report card is in, and Texas A&M fans will be quite happy with it.

Kyler Murray (Texas A&M): 20-28 for 223 yards, 1 TD 0 INT

Running: 20 carries for 156 yds 1TD

My take: The true freshman got his chance to be the man, and he didn’t disappoint. South Carolina had its chances to win and fought valiantly, but the defense just couldn’t get off the field. Credit Murray for that.

He looked a little bit like you-know-who, running around, making plays. For being one of the smaller quarterbacks in the country, he never seemed to take a hard hit. He played very well and made some very impressive throws and reads. That may have been the jolt A&M needed on offense to get back on track.

Grade: A

Brandon Allen (Arkansas): 14-19 for 265 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 1 TD rush

My take: Again, Allen was one of the more accurate quarterbacks in the SEC. Allen got a nice break from playing against SEC competition, and the Razorbacks demolished Tennessee-Martin. Not a whole lot more to say about this one.

Grade: A

Josh Dobbs (Tennessee): 16-26 for 233 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT, 2 TDs rush

My take: Dobbs and Co. put on a clinic against a maligned Kentucky defense. Dobbs threw for 2 touchdowns and ran for another 2 on way to scoring 52 points in Lexington. He’s really picking up his game and becoming better each week.

Tennessee will have a good chance to run the table the rest of the season.

Grade: A-

Chad Kelly (Ole Miss): 33-51 for 381 yds 2TD 2INT

My take: Kelly threw for 300+ yards for the sixth time in 9 games. The Ole Miss ground game was efficient for the second consecutive game, as they tallied 156 yards on 39 carries. The Rebels ran 91 plays for 558 yards. That is a lot, folks.

When you throw 51 passes, and you’re a gunslinger like Kelly is, you’re bound to throw picks. He threw two more, giving him 12 this season.

I love the way he plays the position. I’d give him an A, but I can’t justify it with the 2 picks.

Grade: B+

Treon Harris (Florida): 8-19 for 155 yds, 1 TD, 0 INTs

My take: Harris wasn’t asked to do a whole lot, but he made a splash play when he rolled left and hit Antonio Callaway for a 66-yard TD. The Gators defense took over,  and Harris just had to manage it, which he did a great job at. His stats aren’t eye popping, but he moved the chains and made plays when asked to.

Still … he missed nine consecutive throws at one point and only completed 42 percent for the game. No turnovers helps his overall grade.

Grade: C

Patrick Towles (Kentucky): 16-33 for 184 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT,  1 TD rush

My take:  Towles didn’t have his greatest game, but wasn’t the biggest reason Kentucky lost. His stats have been better, but numbers aren’t always an indication of how the QB plays.

Kentucky is scuffling. The Wildcats have lost three straight, the past two weren’t even close. There has been some chatter about replacing Towles, but I don’t see that happening. He is their best option.

Grade: C

Sean White (Auburn): 12-28 for 258 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

My take: White threw his first college touchdown pass, but it was in a losing effort. He threw some seeds and had a crucial drop, but that’s part of the game. I thought he played well, although he missed on a few throws that he is definitely capable of making.

He also threw the second pick of his young career, but given the fact that he didn’t practice a whole lot this week due to an undisclosed injury, he played well. Auburn had chances, but its red zone offense struggled when they needed it most.

Grade: C

Perry Orth (South Carolina): 15-24 for 192 yds, 0 TDs, 2 INTs, 1 TD rush

My take: Orth played well with the exception of that pick 6. It looked like he stared down Pharoh Cooper that entire route. He kept the Gamecocks in the game and I thought me made some good throws. The interceptions hurt his grade.

They need to find another playmaker on the outside immediately. Defenses are keying on Cooper and trying to take him out of the gameplan. It’s time for someone to step up and give Orth another target.

Grade: C-

Faton Bauta (Georgia): 15-33 for 154 yards, 0 TDs, 4 INTs

My take: Not sure why coach Mark Richt decided to start a guy who has never taken a college snap against one of the better defenses in the SEC, but that’s why I’m not a coach.

He must have had some reasoning behind it.

That being said, Bauta struggled. He made a few good throws, but overall it was a rough outing. The offense didn’t get any help from the ground game either, as Florida stacked the box and forced the Bulldogs to throw as often as possible.

It was Bauta’s first career start, so hopefully he can learn and improve. The four interceptions obviously hurt his grade. The remainder of the season should be an interesting one for the Bulldogs.

Grade: F

Kyle Shumur/Johnny MccCrary (Vanderbilt): Combined 5-20 for 44 yards, 0 TDs, 3 INTs

My take: This was just ugly. Plain and simple.

Grade: YIKES.
