Georgia vs. Mizzou is an SEC East matchup in Week 5 featuring 2 teams trending in very opposite directions. Georgia is the reigning champion and No. 1 team in the country, while Mizzou just blew 2 chances to beat Auburn last week in heartbreaking fashion.

Saturday night’s game at Faurot Field in Columbia is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time and can be seen on the SEC Network.

Georgia vs. Mizzou preview

Georgia didn’t look like the No. 1 team in the country as it struggled somewhat against Kent State last weekend. Let’s just say that’s bad news for the Missouri Tigers.

They’re going to face a hungry, angry Bulldogs squad that is eager to bounce back from a lackluster effort and prove to everyone they’re still the top Dawgs.

Meanwhile, Mizzou is trying to bounce back from a devastating loss at Auburn, a game where the Tigers had 2 incredible opportunities to win and botched them both.

But, 5-star freshman WR Luther Burden is questionable with an injury, meaning the Tigers’ offense could lack one of its most explosive players. Top WR Dominic Lovett will still be on the field, though, and QB Brady Cook needs to get him the ball early and often.

This will potentially be a defining game for Cook as Mizzou’s quarterback. He has been inaccurate and ineffective against tougher opponents, so the Tigers could look to make a change if he struggles again this weekend.

Defensively, Georgia presents a massive challenge. Despite losing several guys to the early rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Bulldogs look like they haven’t missed a beat on that side of the ball. That’s what happens when you consistently land 5-star prospects like Kirby Smart has over the years.

Mizzou’s defense has been better than it was in 2021, but Stetson Bennett and Brock Bowers provide a challenge unlike anything the Tigers have faced thus far in 2022. Both of those guys are deserving of the Heisman hype they’re getting through the first third of the season.

Can Mizzou pull off a massive upset? It doesn’t look likely the way things are going this year, but crazy things happen on a weekly basis in college football. We’ll see what happens at Faurot Field on Saturday night!

Georgia vs. Mizzou prediction

The spread for this game is Georgia -28. Expect the Bulldogs to come out firing early, taking a 38-6 lead through the first 3 quarters of play. Then, with the Georgia starters safely on the sideline in the fourth, look for the Tigers to score a garbage time touchdown to earn a backdoor cover.

Prediction: Georgia 38, Mizzou 13
