The Los Angeles Chargers made a move many expected on Monday morning when they fired coach Anthony Lynn, despite the team winning the last four games of the season.
Lynn became the sixth NFL head coach to lose his job during this coaching carousel cycle. Blown leads and poor game mismanagement were the primary reasons for the move.
Lynn was 33-31 (1-1 in the playoffs) over four seasons in his first full-time head coaching job.
Several prominent offensive coordinators are expected to be in the mix for the opening including Buffalo’s Brian Daboll, Josh McDaniels of the Patriots and Eric Bieniemy of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Though Florida’s Dan Mullen is reportedly interested in making a move to the NFL, and Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald also reportedly has drawn interest from NFL organizations.
Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley and Iowa State’s Matt Campbell, perhaps to a lesser degree, also may continue to get interest about moving to the pros.
