The College Football Playoff is widely seen as an improvement from the BCS model, but many fans and others in positions of power think more could be done.

A popular idea seems to be expanding the Playoff to include eight teams, but don’t expect SEC commissioner Greg Sankey to support that line of thinking any time soon.

On Monday, while speaking to a group of reporters, Sankey said he continues to believe that four is the perfect number for the Playoff:

Any change to the Playoff format would likely take at least a couple of years to implement, and it doesn’t seem there’s any major movement in the expansion direction as of now.

Could it happen? Sure, but with Sankey and the SEC in opposition of the idea, it could take a lot longer than people want.
