The COVID-19 pandemic has caused havoc across the college football landscape as a number of schools have had to cancel or postpone games to account for players that have contracted the coronavirus or been in contact with those who have. The SEC certainly hasn’t escaped the situation as on Monday it was announced that the Auburn-Mississippi State game was postponed until Dec. 12, the latest in a host of games that have been moved.

During an appearance on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Monday, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey revealed that the conference and the athletic directors of its member schools are set to talk about a possible contingency plan to play games that were postponed due to the pandemic.

According to Sankey, the targeted date is Dec. 19, the same day as the conference’s championship game and a week before the Gasparilla Bowl, which is affiliated with the SEC.

With the SEC Championship Game set to be played at 8 pm ET that night, it’s more than likely the makeup games would be scheduled earlier in the day. As far as the plan itself, it will be interesting to see if other conferences around the country follow suit if this comes to pass.
