Though Arkansas QB Austin Allen didn’t play against Alabama last weekend and his status is in doubt for this weekend’s game against Auburn, Razorbacks coach Bret Bielema isn’t ready to rule him out just yet.

During Wednesday’s SEC coaches conference call, Bielema said Allen is getting better every day and may be able to take the field against the Tigers after all.

“Allen continues to make strides,” he said. “He did not practice but he could play Saturday.”

Though Bielema is likely just saying that as a bit of gamesmanship — as it is very unlikely Allen is healthy enough to play — Auburn coach Gus Malzahn won’t be caught off guard in case Allen does somehow take the field instead of backup QB Cole Kelley:

“Yeah, I think you have to,” he said during the SEC coaches teleconference when asked about preparing for both Kelley and Allen. “Austin is a tough guy and I’m sure he wants to play. We will prepare for both and will be ready for both.”

The two quarterbacks are very different, so Auburn DC Kevin Steele has his work cut out for him to form two different game plans.

Saturday night’s game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Central time and can be seen on the SEC Network.
