Alabama and Georgia are at the center of the latest college football debate. The College Football Playoff selection committee surprised many by ranking UGA at No. 4, ahead of No. 5 Alabama. Two SEC head coaches (Will Muschamp, Jeremy Pruitt) have already faced both teams. (By the end of the season, Jimbo Fisher and Gus Malzahn will be added to that list.)

On Wednesday’s SEC media teleconference, Pruitt and Muschamp were asked for their thoughts on both. Unsurprisingly, neither coach would name one foe better than the other, but did offer some insight from a coach’s perspective.

“I think they are both very well-coached teams, very talented, neither one of them have a lot of weaknesses,” Pruitt said. “I think they both play some really good opponents down the stretch that will kinda settle it out on the field. I think that’s the beauty of college football, it does get settled on the field, definitely in the SEC.”

Muschamp offered a more detailed breakdown of each team.

“You take Alabama, Tua is outstanding. The speed at wide receiver, they have 4 guys that can really run… Defensively, up front, Davis and Lewis are guys you have to deal with, and Jennings, they cover extremely well,” Muschamp said.

“Georgia, their offensive line is tough to matchup with, Bama has size to matchup with them. Swift is phenomenal. I think they are inexperienced at wide receiver, they are dealing with those inconsistencies… They will continue to improve because of the youth they have. Their defense is deep, they have talented guys, tough to run against… Both really talented teams, no doubt about it.”
