Heisman Trophy finalists announced
The Heisman Trophy ceremony, Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN, is unlikely to be popular viewing with SEC fanbases this year.
The five finalists for the award were announced Monday night, and the SEC was shutout for the first time in more than a decade.
This is the first time since 2005 the SEC did not have a Heisman finalist. Quite an impressive run, though.

The award’s official Twitter account posted a graphic announcing Louisville QB Lamar Jackson, Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield, Michigan LB/DE Jabrill Peppers, Clemson QB Deshaun Watson and Oklahoma WR Dede Westbrook as the five finalists.

In preseason, LSU RB Leonard Fournette was considered a candidate, but injuries caused Fournette to miss four games of an already shortened Tigers season. During the season, many considered Alabama QB Jalen Hurts to be a possible candidate. Perhaps the true freshman will have better luck as a sophomore.
