This was certainly an interesting press conference.

It was announced Sunday night that ESPN’s Herm Edwards was returning to coaching, this time at the collegiate level with Arizona State. Edwards previously coached in the NFL with the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs before serving as an analyst at ESPN since 2009.

Edwards did have four winning seasons in the NFL, but he finished with a 54-74 overall record in eight seasons. He now takes over for a Sun Devils program that has not won more than eight games since 2014.

It will be interesting to see if Edwards can be successful at Arizona State, but his agent made an interesting statement when introducing the coach at Monday’s press conference. Having his agent introduce him is a bit odd in itself, and his reference to a “scoreboard of life” sounds eerily similar to some of Butch Jones’ comments during his time at Tennessee.

Time will tell if the hire is a good one, but Edwards is off to an interesting start. In addition to the comment made by his agent, Edwards had an interesting exchange with a reporter from Devils Digest.

Football Scoop shared video of the exchange:

Edwards also turned a comment on the huddle into a statement about today’s society:

Edwards is definitely off to an interesting start with the Sun Devils.
