Regardless of how your team fared, it was just great to have SEC football back as the Big 12 continued to burn.

OK, maybe it wasn’t so great if you are an LSU fan or still believe defense wins championships.

Things were a little wonky in Week 1 of SEC play, but here’s how each fan base should feel headed into Week 2.

Alabama

Hang in there Tide fans, don’t get bored. We are in an unprecedented time. Everyone is adjusting to the “new normal.” Unless of course you’re Alabama. It was S.O.P. for the Crimson Tide against Missouri. Nick Saban will probably have the boys running for that late touchdown, but Alabama remains atop its perch, counting down the weeks until the 4 Playoff teams are announced.

Arkansas

What an electric 30 minutes! A national title was imminent with that sexy 7-5 halftime lead. Sure the wheels eventually fell off, but it’s about time to put some respect on that Hog name. Feleipe Franks was up and down, but Barry Odom had the defense playing well against a 4th-string QB. And if you can slow down Stetson Bennett, KJ Costello should be a breeze.

Auburn

Nature is healing. Auburn fans emptied their COVID surplus of toilet paper on Toomer’s Corner. With the way that defense played and Seth Williams flew through the secondary, the toiletry shelves may look like they did in March by season’s end. Bo Nix got better with each drive. The first punt went 38 yards. The next one went 39.

Florida

A, B, C, E, F, G …Who cares about the D anyways? Not when you have Kyle Trask making an early bid for Heisman and Kyle Pitts taking pole position for the John Mackey Award. It doesn’t get much better than a school-record 642 yards of offense, granted Lane Kiffin isn’t exactly a defensive savant. And the rest of the East? Book your tickets to Atlanta now.

Georgia

Week 1: It can’t get much worse than relying on JT Daniels to be the starter.

Week 2: We will move Heaven and Earth to ensure JT Daniels is the starter.

Kentucky

Why pile on about the referees, a lackluster run game or letting a prime opportunity for a season-defining win slip through the Wildcats’ paws when you can celebrate the good health of Terry Wilson?

LSU

It may be time to review the DBU accreditation. Derek Stingley Jr. wasn’t there, but 623 yards is more concerning than the ingredients of a boudin ball, especially with games against Kyle Trask, Jalen Waddle and Seth Williams looming. Myles Brennan was no Joe Burrow, but who is (KJ Costello?)? Think more about Brandon Harris or Anthony Jennings and Brennan looks much more acceptable.

Mississippi State

Is it too late to include Mike Leach on the presidential ballot? It was no secret the Bulldogs were moving to the Air Raid this year, but to have that type of success against the reigning national champion in their own stadium is pure ecstasy. So is Leach’s love of pumpkins just hours after one of the biggest wins of his career.

Missouri

The good news is ESPN won’t be showing Alabama highlights with footage exclusively from Week 1. The bad news is that Shawn Robinson didn’t quite cement his hold on QB1. But the best news is the Missouri defense was just bad enough to have Tide fans turn on each other and ignite the Mac Jones vs. Bryce Young debate.

Ole Miss

Rebels fans claim the lone undisputed champion of Week 1: the turnover cash bag. The offense was exciting. The defense was a mess. But that cash bag was priceless. And for a program sanctioned for paying recruits, it just makes too much cents.

South Carolina

Deja vu? Nope, just another day in the Will Muschamp era as his Gamecocks moved to 2-14 against ranked teams. His decision to kick a field goal in the 4th quarter has to be about as popular as a tiger paw in Columbia.

Tennessee

Did you hear? Tennessee has the longest winning streak in the SEC (7 games) and no one touts that fact louder than a UCF national title claim quite like a Volunteer fan. But soak it in while you can because it has to be emotionally exhausting watching Tennessee football, and the bus leaves for Georgia in 2 weeks.

Texas A&M

If Jimbo Fisher’s plan is to put Rivals and 247Sports out of business, then Aggie fans should applaud his efforts as he continues to make you question the merits of recruiting rankings. A narrow escape of SEC juggernaut Vanderbilt is concerning to say the least.

Kellen Mond made first-year starter mistakes, which might be OK if he were not the most tenured starting QB in the conference. And if Mond and Co. thought the Commodores’ defense was a challenge, Dylan Moses has some bad news waiting to deliver on Saturday.

Vanderbilt

For a team with zero expectations, Vandy fans have to be pleased with the defensive outing and potential of Ken Seals. For Derek Mason doing anything possible to retain his job, a game-clinching personal foul is … not great.
