Only a couple of weeks before he was supposed to head to California to start his college football career, 19-year-old Brian Brown was shot and killed during what is believed to be a Craigslist transaction gone wrong.

Brown, who had just graduated from North Miami Beach High School and was going to leave to play college football at Merced College in California, was trying to sell a PlayStation and some video games, according to Local10.com.

Obviously, after such a shocking tragedy, those close to Brown are stunned and searching for words after the unexpected loss.

Merced College’s football coach, Bob Casey, told Local10.com that he and the entire Merced program are saddened by the loss of the incoming freshman:

“Mr. Brown had a bright future as a student-athlete and we were very excited for him to be a part of our program,” said Casey. “His passing has left us all stunned and we can do nothing but pray for his family.”

The police are still investigating the incident. Brown would have had a full scholarship at Merced.

His father, Craig Brown, said his son was excited to start his college career and had recently gone shopping for stuff for his dorm room.
