The animosity between Michigan and Michigan State probably won’t settle down any time soon.

And it’s not just between the players — both coaches have stolen headlines for their comments in the wake of last Saturday’s rivalry game, which was heated before and after kickoff.

Prior to No. 6 Michigan’s 21-7 win against its bitter rival, Michigan State players walked across the field with locked arms, a tradition for every home game. The Spartans’ line mowed down a few Michigan players on the field for early warmups, which resulted in some shoving and plenty of trash talk.

That prompted Wolverines linebacker Devin Bush, one of the players warming up, to stomp on and drag his feet across Michigan State’s logo at midfield. The game was a typical Michigan-Michigan State slugfest, but the teams didn’t stop taking jabs at each other once the final whistle blew.

Following the game, Wolverines coach John Harbaugh called out both the Spartans and coach Mark Dantonio for their actions during the pregame walk.

“Total bush league,” Harbaugh said. “Apparently, Coach Dantonio was five yards behind it, all smiling, so I think that’s bush league, that’s my impression of it.”

When asked about Harbaugh’s comments, Dantonio bluntly said, “That’s B.S.”

Reporters asked Harbaugh about the situation again during his Monday press conference, and Michigan’s coach doubled down on his previous statements.

It’s a safe assumption that Dantonio will fire back at Harbaugh the next time he meets with the media. Honestly, it’s a shame we can’t see these two teams play again this season.
