JJ Watt has had one of the most memorable runs with the one team in recent NFL history but that time has come to an end.

The face of the Houston Texans franchise will be finishing his playing career elsewhere. After 10 seasons and 128 games, the Texans are releasing Watt.

This news comes as the franchise appears to be fighting an uphill battle to keep franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson happy and the recent hiring of new head coach David Culley, who was previously an assistant on the Ravens staff.

During his time in Houston, Watt made 531 tackles, 172 tackles for loss, 101 sacks, 25 forced fumbles, two interceptions and scored two defensive touchdowns. He also managed to catch three touchdowns after playing tight end on a few goal line packages during his career.

Watt was scheduled to make $17.5 million next season playing for the Texans but will now instead hit the free agency market and likely be arguably the hottest commodity on the market for NFL teams searching for a defensive player.

Watt issued the following video statement announcing he will be leaving Houston after speaking with the Texans’ ownership.
