Josh Gordon looked like one of the best young receivers in the NFL before a number of drug issues led to his suspension.

Gordon struggled with drug use during his time in college, but the Browns used a supplemental draft pick to get Gordon. In 35 NFL games, Gordon had 161 catches for 2,754 yards and 14 TDs. His first suspension came in 2014, and he remains suspended indefinitely from the league.

Gordon recently did an interview with Uninterrupted where he recounts some of the early struggles he had with drugs, and he made a startling claim about his time with Baylor.

Gordon had 43 catches for 721 yards 7 TDs over two seasons with the Bears. He performed well, but was suspended indefinitely due to a failed drug test. In his interview with Uninterrupted, Gordon claims that a coach at Baylor helped him pass drug tests prior to his failed test.

Gordon says a Baylor assistant provided him a detox supplement that allowed him to pass drug tests on occasion:

“Not too long after I got arrested for possession of marijuana at Baylor, one of my coaches came by saying, ‘You are going to get drug tested by the compliance office,'” said Gordon. “‘This is how it’s going to work, this is what they are going to do. If they do call you in, here goes these bottles of detox.’ He showed me how to drink them, showed me how to take them.”

Gordon then explained that he happened to be out of detox when he was faced with another drug test, but he refused to blame the coach for the failed test. When asked if he failed because the coach forgot his detox, Gordon simply stated he failed the test “because he was getting high.”

Gordon truly does sound remorseful and intent on getting his life back on track, but this is more startling news about Baylor following other recent scandals.

Gordon remains suspended from the NFL after his appeals for reinstatement were denied in 2016 and 2017.
