Week 1 of the 2019 college football season is in the books.

From breakout performances to upsets, the kickoff of the season had it all. With Monday’s Notre Dame-Louisville game concluding the week, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit – who was on the call for the Irish’s win over the Cardinals – revealed his top-five performances from the week on Twitter:

Hurts, a graduate transfer from Alabama, was nearly flawless in his Oklahoma debut. Racking up 508 yards of total offense, the fifth most in a game in program history, Hurts was responsible for six touchdowns in the Sooners’ 49-31 win over the Houston Cougars.

A true freshman, Bachmeier led his Boise State Broncos into Tallahassee and upset Florida State, 36-31. Trailing 31-19 at the half, the Murrieta, California native commanded two key touchdown drives in the second half. He finished the game 30-51 for 407 yards and a touchdown. Thanks to this upset, the Broncos have cracked the latest Associated Press Poll at No. 24.

One of the leading Heisman Trophy candidates entering the season, Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor got his 2019 campaign started with a bang. Routing the South Florida Bulls 49-0 in Tampa, Taylor totaled 183 yards of offense and four touchdowns.

In another one of the weekend’s biggest upsets, true freshman kicker Brandon Talton drilled a 56-yard field goal as time expired to lift Nevada to a 34-31 victory over the Purdue Boilermakers. This game-winner earned Talton a scholarship from head coach Jay Norvell.

Herbstreit’s final selection of the week, Kentucky Wildcats linebacker DeAndre Square had a game-high 11 tackles, including 1.5 TFL, half a sack and an interception in the team’s 38-24 win over the Toledo Rockets. A product of Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan, Square was a three-star prospect in the 2018 class, per the 247Sports Composite.
