Matt Leinart seemed to pick up the anti-SEC argument Tuesday night after the latest College Football Playoff rankings were revealed, but he was quickly shut down by his former coach.

Leinart raised the question about how a now two-loss LSU is ranked No. 7, but Lane Kiffin simply explained that the Tigers are still that high because they play in the SEC.

There was also a point made that the SEC also has the top three-loss team, which is Florida followed by Mississippi State at Nos. 15 and 16.

Kiffin from his days as an assistant at Alabama and head coach at Tennessee has long been one of the more interesting personalities tied to the SEC. He’s mentioned he was nearly the coach at Arkansas about 10 years ago, and was in recent months rumored as a possible candidate at LSU.

Kiffin last offseason signed a 10-year deal at FAU, but not many would be surprised if he moved on long before the 10 years are out, especially if the right fit in the SEC came open.
