On Monday night, Dabo Swinney joined an exclusive club of coaches to win multiple national championships. There was a time, however, when Swinney wasn’t highly thought of as a head coach.

Swinney was promoted from wide receivers coach to interim coach and eventually full-time head coach at Clemson in 2008. At that time, Pat Forde gave the hire a grade of D-plus. In Forde’s defense, the Wikipedia article on Swinney notes that the hire wasn’t popular with some fans and media pundits.

College football’s most famous tweeter, Lane Kiffin decided to share a screenshot of Frode’s 2008 ESPN article Friday on Twitter. Kiffin tagged ESPN in the tweet after using three facepalm emojis. It’s worth noting that Forde is no longer with ESPN and currently writes for Yahoo! Sports.
